Follow the Investigate link for student activities that involve multiple choice questions about familiar regular shapes and irregular shapes. While students complete these activities, they have access to a shape book that provides drawings and information about each shape. Click on the bouncing triangle for interactive java activities that allow students to use their knowledge about shapes, symmetry, and transformations. Follow the teacher link for information about the skills that are covered at this website, along with printable activities and resources.
- Beacon Learning Center - Outstanding - This can be a student interactive lesson for reinforcement, or it can be used as a teaching tool for the entire class. Geo Cleo has to try to create a "shape caper". But, there is a lesson of descriptive qualities that must be known/learned first of each of these 3-dimensional objects (cylinders, cubes, rectangular prisms, and pyramids). What a wonderful reteaching activity!
- Geometry and Measurement - This site is all about geometry and measurement. All of the sites listed on this page are interactive for K-5. They include: Tessellate, Polygon Playground, Shape Cave, and Shape Explorer. This is an outstanding site for a variety of interactive mathematics activities.
- Making Triangles and Electronic Geoboard - This is a teacher directed site that would be good for K on up. With teacher direction the child can use an electronic geoboard to make, change, transform and explore shapes.
- MathsNet Interactive Shape Version 1.0 - Outstanding - This site includes interactive activities for students that cover ALL of the Shape and Shape Relationship Benchmarks.
- Study the Shapes - Outstanding - Grades 3 and up. This interactive site allows students to explore and manipulate geometric shapes. Students are encouraged to compare and describe shapes according to their attributes.
- The Mysterious Tangram - This is a very student friendly and fun site. Students build shapes by turning, flipping, and combining others to fill patterns. The site gives clues and encourages children by using positive sayings. Good for children 1st grade through 6th.
- Virtual Manipulatives Geometry - This site contains activities for students to explore various geometric concepts using virtual manipulatives. Explanations for use and links to math standards are provided.
- G.LO.01.02 "Describe relative position of objects on a plane and in space, using words such as above, below, behind in front of."
- Billy Bug - Outstanding - Students manipulate a bug on the screen on a coordinate grid system in according to the given points. Excellent and fun practice!.
- Interactive Mathematics-Geometry - This site contains a multitude of activities using virtual manipulatives to explore a variety of geometric skills. It also gives instructions for use and has links to math benchmarks in other areas.
- Shape & Space in Geometry - Using coordinate geometry, students play "Taxicab Treasure Hunt," a game in which they make moves on the grid to reach the treasure. This game reinforces ordinal numbers, and map skills. Open-ended questions are given at the end of the activity for students to practice constructed response.
- Symmetry - Students will be asked to find the line of symmetry when given a plane fiqure. The computer encourages them to keep trying if they are not correct. There are also many other interactive games to explore.
- The Mysterious Tangram - Outstanding - This is a very student friendly and fun site. Students build shapes by turning, flipping, and combining others to fill patterns. The site gives clues and encourages children by using positive sayings. Good for children 1st grade through 6th.
- "Create and Describe Patterns Involving Geometric Objects"
- 123 Order - Outstanding - This site is a number game where students need to click on the next number in the number line. Web site requires a fee. Recommended for grades pre-K-1.
- Aol at School - This site provides students K-4 with the opportunity to play math games. Teachers are provided with general information and other teacher resource sites.
- Aplusmath - This site has many online activities for the early elementary group, however if upper elementary students are struggling with math facts then this site would also facilitate these groups.
- Complete the Pattern - This site contains a random pattern generator. It gives children the chance to practice creating color patterns.
- Erich's Puzzle Palace - Students are able to choose from a variety of options, solve a problem, and create or complete a puzzle. This is recommended for middle-upper elementary grades.
- Guess My Button - The computer has secretly picked out one of sixteen buttons. The student must use skills in sorting and classifying to discover the button.
- Max's Math Adventures - This site has K-3 skills patterning, relationships and functions of numbers. The site has a level of difficulty to click on so that the learners can build upon their skills at their own pace. There are some solve the rhyme activities to keep the student involved and interested in the practice portion of patterning.
- Pattern Builder - This is an interactive site where children are asked to create patterns using musical notes. The program gives children a chance to a real life application of patterns. Recommended for elementary grades.
- Patterns and Picture Books - This site allows teachers to connect children's literature with the concept of patterns and their relationships.
